The soul says…
- If I am materially wealthy, I am saved.
- If I am comfortable, I am saved.
- If I am happy, I am saved.
- If I do good, I am saved.
- If I feel good, I am saved.
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)
Our true value comes from knowing Jesus Christ and having a personal relationship with Him. Jesus is able to save our spirit, soul and body and deliver us completely from sin’s power.
“But all those who come and listen and obey me are like a man who builds a house on a strong foundation laid upon the underlying rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against the house, it stands firm, for it is strongly built. But those who listen and don’t obey are like a man who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it crumbles into a heap of ruins.” (Luke 6:47-49, Living Bible)
Think about it: We can be rescued from a natural disaster and regain all of our material goods (temporary), but eventually die and go to hell (permanent).
The greatest disaster is to go through this life and never accept Jesus’ offer of salvation from our sins.
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. “There is no eternal doom awaiting those who trust Him to save them. But those who don’t trust him have already been tried and condemned for not believing in the only Son of God.” (John 3:16-18, Living Bible)
