Some people put all their hopes in a man or woman. When “he” comes along, my life will be better. When “she” comes into my life, I’ll have someone to talk to. He will be someone I can trust. She will help make all my dreams come true. He will provide for me. Sounds like a fantasy, right? It isn’t.
There is a man who can do all of that. His name is Jesus. He is looking for a spouse. Jesus has proposed to all those who believe in him and receive him into their heart. But, he desires a bride who is faithful. The Apostle Paul explained it to the Christians in Corinth this way…
2 Corinthians 11:2-3, New Living Translation
“For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband—Christ. But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted…”
Jesus doesn’t want a “cheating” spouse. He is faithful. There’s just one problem for us three-part beings. One part of us is devoted to Christ—our spirit. The second part of us is unfaithful to Christ—our flesh. While, the third part of us is double-minded—our soul.
That’s where the work of the Holy Spirit comes in. Not only has God the Father sent his Son Jesus to bring us into the family of God through marriage, he has also sent his Holy Spirit to dwell in us, to clean up his new bride-to-be!
Colossians 1:27, Living Bible
“And this is the secret: Christ in your hearts is your only hope of glory.”
God will transform us into the perfect spouse, if we are willing to submit to the Spirit of Christ (the Holy Spirit). No more flaky flesh with its lust and evil desires. No more unreliable, weak-willed soul that is loyal to Christ one day and out partying with the flesh the next.
We won’t just have a new man, we will have a “new man” living inside us—helping us.
Colossians 2:9-10, Living Bible
“For in Christ there is all of God in a human body; so you have everything when you have Christ, and you are filled with God through your union with Christ. He is the highest Ruler, with authority over every other power.”
The secret to a fulfilling life is to be reconciled to God through Christ. When we have Christ we have everything.
- John 10:10, King James Version – “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
- John 20:29-31, Living Bible – “Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you have seen me. But blessed are those who haven’t seen me and believe anyway.’ Jesus’ disciples saw him do many other miracles besides the ones told about in this book, but these are recorded so that you will believe that he is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that believing in him you will have life.”
